Toe Fungus Treatment And What Causes This Affliction
Toe fungus is very common, not only does it affect the skin of the toes it also affects the nails and can be unsightly as well as painful. Toe nails are more commonly affected than finger nails, but what can be used for toe fungus treatment?
Nail fungus starts to grow below the toe or finger nails and this makes it difficult to reach for treatment purposes. This fungus thrives and grows in environments that are dark, warm and moist. It is for this reason that it is more commonly found in people who constantly wear shoes in countries which have warmer climates. If there is a break in the nail, the nail will be more susceptible to this type of infection and if you constantly wear shoes that are tight fitting the nails become weaker making them more prone to infection.
Symptoms include flakey or brittle toenails that chip easily. They may become discolored and look either spotty, yellow, brown or black. The toe nails may become thick and painful and they are able to emit a bad smell.
Toe fungus treatment can be effected with home remedies, the sooner it is treated the better as it can spread to other parts of the body, and even other people, it is extremely contagious.
Vinegar is a good home remedy, preferably apple cider vinegar, but if you don’t have this, any vinegar will do. Although your wife may be upset if you make use of her reduction of balsamic vinegar which cost her an arm and a leg. Tea Tree oil is an excellent remedy for this infliction and it is able to penetrate the layers of nail and reach the source of the fungal infection.
Listerine is another powerful home remedy, virtually every home keeps this and it is a very powerful disinfectant. Rubbing alcohol can be used as can Hydrogen Peroxide, Vick Vapo-rub. The obvious way for treatment is to rub the product directly onto the nails or soak the feet in a diluted form. However if you do this make sure that the feet and nails are dried properly before donning socks and shoes again.

What treatments work best?
For fungal infection under the toenail, there are not topical treatements that are much effective, unless the toenail is removed. Oral prescription medications can be very effective. You may have to take them for long periods and the fungus may recur. See your doctor. Don’t take someone else’s prescription medication.
